The closest thing dentistry has to giving you the tooth back.
Dr. Sajid holds Fellowship certification from the International Dental Implant Association, and she handles your implant from the first scan to the final crown.
That matters: implants are one treatment where the planning, the surgery and the final crown all have to agree with each other.
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the bone has fused to it, a custom crown is attached on top. The result looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth, and it does not rely on the teeth either side of it.
Dr. Saman Sajid holds Fellowship certification from the International Dental Implant Association (FIDIA), and she plans, places and restores implants herself, here in the practice. That combination matters: implants are one treatment where the planning, the surgery and the final crown all have to agree with each other.
Because the gap does not stay a gap. The teeth either side tip into the space, the opposing tooth drifts down out of its socket, and the jawbone that used to support the root begins to resorb — which is why long-term denture wearers develop a collapsed profile. Replacing the root with an implant is the only option that keeps the bone stimulated.
Implants take time, and any practice promising you a finished tooth next week is glossing over the biology. The bone has to grow onto the implant surface, and that takes months, not days.
We check bone volume, the position of the nerve and sinus, and your gum health. Some patients need a bone graft first, which we will tell you upfront.
The implant is placed into the bone under local anaesthetic. Most patients are surprised by how straightforward this appointment is compared with an extraction.
The bone integrates with the implant surface. You wear a temporary tooth in the meantime if the gap shows when you smile.
A connector post is fitted, an impression or scan is taken, and your custom crown is made and fitted. From start to finish, plan on around four months.
Most healthy adults are. The things that genuinely matter are enough bone to hold the implant, healthy gums, and controlled general health — uncontrolled diabetes and heavy smoking both reduce success rates considerably, and we will talk frankly about that rather than take your money and hope. Bone can often be rebuilt with a graft where it is lacking.
Cost perspective: an implant costs more upfront than a bridge and usually outlives it. A bridge typically needs replacing every 10–15 years and requires reshaping two healthy teeth to do it. We will lay out both options with real numbers so you can compare them properly.
The total depends on whether you need a graft, how many implants are involved and the crown material. We give you a written plan that separates the surgical and restorative stages so you can see exactly what each part costs. CareCredit financing is available, and some plans contribute toward the crown.
The placement itself is done under local anaesthetic and most patients report less discomfort than they expected — frequently less than the extraction that preceded it. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days, managed with ordinary painkillers.
Implants have a very high long-term success rate and many last decades. The crown on top may need replacing at some point, as any crown might, but the implant itself is designed to be permanent.
Brush and floss them like natural teeth, and keep your regular checkups. Implants cannot decay, but the gum and bone around them can become inflamed — peri-implantitis — and that is what checkups catch early.
Often yes. Bone shrinks over time in an empty site, so we will image the area to see what is left. Where volume is insufficient, a bone graft can rebuild enough to place an implant successfully.
Implant consultations include imaging and a written plan covering the surgical and restorative stages.
