The twice-a-year visit that quietly prevents almost everything else on this website.
A cleaning and exam every six months catches a cavity while it is still small, spots gum disease before it costs you bone, and gives Dr. Sajid a baseline to compare against next time.
Almost everything expensive we treat would have been cheaper, faster and less uncomfortable if it had been found at a checkup.
A cleaning and exam every six months is the least expensive dentistry you will ever pay for. It is also the appointment that catches a small cavity while it is still small, spots gum disease before it costs you bone, and gives Dr. Sajid a baseline to compare against next time.
Santa Clara Family Dental has been the family dental home for Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and San Jose families for over a decade. We see grandparents, parents and kids in the same week — often back to back, because we know how hard it is to get everyone in the chair.
Low-radiation digital images show what the eye cannot — decay between teeth, bone levels, and the roots below the gumline. We only take them when they are due or when something needs a closer look.
Dr. Sajid checks every tooth and existing restoration, examines your gums and bite, and performs an oral cancer screening of the soft tissue, tongue and throat.
Your hygienist removes the plaque and hardened tartar that brushing cannot reach, above and just below the gumline, then polishes and flosses.
You will hear exactly what we found, what needs treatment now, what can wait and watch, and what it will cost before anything is scheduled.
None of these mean you are in trouble. All of them mean it is worth an hour of your time to find out.
If gum disease has already set in — deeper pockets, bleeding, bone loss visible on X-ray — a regular cleaning is not enough. Scaling and root planing cleans the root surfaces below the gumline, usually with local anaesthetic and often over two visits. We will tell you honestly which one you need, and we will not upgrade you to a deep cleaning you do not require.
Nervous patients: tell the front desk when you book. Dr. Sajid has built much of her practice on patients who avoided dentists for years, and nobody here is going to lecture you about it.
Kids should see a dentist by their first birthday, then every six months. Early visits are short, friendly and mostly about making the chair a normal place to sit. We apply fluoride varnish and place sealants on permanent molars when they come in — a few minutes of prevention that spares a lot of drilling later.
Every six months for most people. If you have a history of gum disease, smoke, or have diabetes, every three to four months protects you far better — we will tell you which group you are in rather than defaulting everyone to the same schedule.
Nearly every dental PPO covers two cleanings and exams a year at or near 100%, plus X-rays on a set schedule. We accept all major PPO plans and will verify your benefits before your visit so there are no surprises.
A routine cleaning should not hurt, though inflamed gums can be tender for the first visit or two — which improves once the inflammation is gone. If you are sensitive, say so and we will use topical anaesthetic.
It is very common and it is not a lecture. We start with an exam and X-rays, tell you what we find in plain language, and build a plan you can work through in stages if that is easier financially.
Yes — we are a family practice and see children alongside their parents, which is often the easiest way to get a nervous child comfortable in the chair.
Tell us what you need and our front desk will call you back to confirm a time that works.
